Md. Shamsul Islam

Md. Shamsul Islam was born on 1st January, 1970 at a small town named Munshiganj in the then Dhaka district, the capital of Bangladesh. He obtained his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) respectively from K.K Government Institution & Haraganga Government College, Munshiganj. Then he got admitted to the University of Dhaka in Social Science Faculty. He successfully completed his Honours & Masters degree in Economics from the same University. 

On completion of University education, he joined in Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, the national flag carrier organization, as Assistant Manager. Md. Shamsul Islam joined Bangladesh Civil Service (Customs& Excise cadre)in 2003 as an Assistant Commissioner. He has been working at different field level offices of Customs and Value Added Tax at different capacities as Deputy Commissioner, Joint Commissioner and Additional Commissioner. He also Served at policy level in National Board of Revenue (NBR), the apex body of tax administration in Bangladesh, as Second Secretary (International Trade Contract), First Secretary (VAT Implementation) and Additional Director General of Audit, Intelligence & Investigation Directorate, Value Added Tax (VAT), Dhaka. Immediately before he served as Commissioner at Customs, Excise & VAT Commissionerate, Khulna. Presently he is working as Commissioner at Custom House ICD, Kamalapur, Dhaka.

He participated in many foreign training programs regarding Customs& VAT matters in China, Malaysia, USA and Italy. He took part in several trade negotiations in Thailand, Shrilanka, China and India as a member of Bangladesh delegation under SAFTA, APTA & BIMSTEC. He also participated in many domestic training programs, seminars and workshops. He is married and blessed with a daughter and a son.
